Hera punished many of Zeus’s lovers and their children, including making Hercules’s life difficult with 12 impossible labors.

3. POSEIDON – God of the Sea

Created the first horse and competed with Athena to be patron of Athens (he lost when she created the olive tree).

4. DEMETER – Goddess of the Harvest

Key Story

When Hades kidnapped her daughter Persephone, Demeter’s grief created winter. This myth explains the seasons!

5. ATHENA – Goddess of Wisdom

Born fully grown from Zeus’s head wearing armor! Helped heroes like Perseus and Odysseus on their quests.

6. APOLLO – God of the Sun

Drove the sun chariot across the sky each day. His Oracle at Delphi gave prophecies to humans.

7. ARTEMIS – Goddess of the Hunt

Turned the hunter Actaeon into a deer when he saw her bathing. Protected wild animals fiercely.

8. ARES – God of War

Had an affair with Aphrodite. Was caught in a golden net by her husband Hephaestus!

9. APHRODITE – Goddess of Love

Key Story

Started the Trojan War! Paris chose her as the fairest goddess, and she helped him steal Helen.

10. HEPHAESTUS – God of the Forge

Made all the gods’ weapons and tools. Created Pandora, the first woman, on Zeus’s orders.

11. HERMES – Messenger God

Key Story

As a baby, stole Apollo’s cattle and invented the lyre to apologize. Guides souls to the Underworld.

12. HESTIA or DIONYSUS
