Practice: try it, then get help one step at a time

Find d, write both rules, find a far term, and find which term has a given value. Hint gives a nudge, Show next step shows one worked step at a time, Reveal answer checks, and Hide help / start over clears the card. Count the steps: one less than the term number.

Finished the practice? Print a page that shows each question, what you typed or chose, the correct answer, and how it went. Good for showing a teacher or keeping in a folder.

Exit ticket

On paper or an index card. Use the math word and the plain-English word.

  1. Find d for 12, 19, 26, 33, and write the recursive rule.
  2. Write the explicit rule and find the 30th term.
  3. Why n − 1 and not n?
  4. Simplify 12 + 7(n − 1). What are the slope and the y-intercept? Is the y-intercept the first term?
Check your exit ticket
  1. d = 7. a1 = 12, an = an − 1 + 7.
  2. an = 12 + 7(n − 1). a30 = 12 + 7 × 29 = 215.
  3. From the 1st term to the nth takes n − 1 steps: the first term is already there.
  4. 7n + 5. Slope 7, y-intercept 5 (the zeroth term). No: the first term is 12, at n = 1.
