Practice Problems

Try them, get help one step at a time, then print how it went.

Practice: try it, then get help one step at a time

Try each problem yourself first. Hint gives a nudge, Show next step shows one worked step at a time, Reveal answer checks, and Hide help / start over clears the card. Write every domain and range in words or as an inequality, and say what the numbers are.

Finished the practice? Print a page that shows each question, what you typed or chose, the correct answer, and how it went. Good for showing a teacher or keeping in a folder.

Exit ticket

On paper or an index card. Use the math word and the plain-English word.

  1. In your own words: what is the domain, and what is the range? Use the words input and output.
  2. A pool drains from 500 gallons at 25 gallons a minute: water = 500 − 25t. Give a reasonable domain and range.
  3. A graph is one connected piece that starts at (−2, 4), dips to a lowest point (1, −1), and ends at (6, 5). Give the domain and the range.
  4. A table has x = 1, 2, 3 and y = 4, 4, 9. Give the domain and range, and say why the range has only two numbers.

  1. The domain is all the inputs, the x values the function is allowed to take. The range is all the outputs, the y values that come out.
  2. It is empty when 500 − 25t = 0, so t = 20. Domain: 0 ≤ t ≤ 20 minutes. Range: 0 ≤ water ≤ 500 gallons.
  3. Domain: −2 ≤ x ≤ 6. Range: −1 ≤ y ≤ 5.
  4. Domain: 1, 2, 3. Range: 4, 9. Two inputs share the output 4, and a range lists each output value once.
