Practice: try it, then get help one step at a time

Building models three ways, forward and backward questions, and what changes. Hint gives a nudge, Show next step shows one worked step at a time, Reveal answer checks, and Hide help / start over clears the card. Say what a and b mean every time.

Finished the practice? Print a page that shows each question, what you typed or chose, the correct answer, and how it went. Good for showing a teacher or keeping in a folder.

Exit ticket

On paper or an index card. Use the math word and the plain-English word.

  1. A car costs $20,000 and loses 25% of its value each year. Write the model and say what a and b mean.
  2. Forward: what is the car worth after 2 years?
  3. Backward: how would you find when it is worth $5,000 on the graph?
  4. Is the yearly car model discrete or continuous? What if it lost 20% instead?
Check your exit ticket
  1. y = 20000 · 0.75x; a = $20,000 new; b = 0.75 keeps 75% each year.
  2. 20000 · 0.5625 = $11,250.
  3. Draw the horizontal line y = 5000 and read the x where the curve crosses it (about 4.8, so during year 5).
  4. Discrete: whole years. Losing 20% makes b = 0.80: falls more slowly, stays above, crosses later.
