Practice Problems
Try them, get help one step at a time, then print how it went.
Practice: eliminate, then check
The candidate graphs are described in words, so you practice the looks in order: the sign of m, then b, then the size of m. Write the rule that ruled out each wrong choice. Hint gives a nudge, Show next step shows one look at a time, Reveal answer checks, and Hide help / start over clears the card.
Practice: try it, then get help one step at a time
Same family, different members. Hint gives a nudge, Show next step shows one worked step at a time, Reveal answer checks, and Hide help / start over clears the card.

Finished the practice? Print a page that shows each question, what you typed or chose, the correct answer, and how it went. Good for showing a teacher or keeping in a folder.
Exit ticket
On paper or an index card. Use the math word and the plain-English word.
- What is a family of graphs, and why are all straight lines one family?
- y = 3x + 1 and y = 3x − 4: what is the same, what is different, and what does the difference do?
- Write a member of the line family that crosses the y-axis at (0, −2) and falls steeply.
- What three questions will you ask about every new family of graphs?
Check your exit ticket
- A group of graphs with the same form, differing only in their numbers. All lines share the form y = mx + b.
- Same m, so same tilt and parallel. Different b: the second is slid down 5.
- Any y = mx − 2 with a negative m of size more than 1, for example y = −3x − 2.
- What family is this? What are its numbers? What does each number do to the graph?
