Practice: try it, then get help one step at a time

Finding the perpendicular slope, spotting pairs, and writing the line. Hint gives a nudge, Show next step shows one worked step at a time, Reveal answer checks, and Hide help / start over clears the card. Say flip and change the sign, and check the product.

Finished the practice? Print a page that shows each question, what you typed or chose, the correct answer, and how it went. Good for showing a teacher or keeping in a folder.

Exit ticket

On paper or an index card. Use the math word and the plain-English word.

  1. A line has slope −25. What is the slope of a perpendicular line, and how do you know?
  2. Why does turning a line a quarter turn make the rise and the run trade places?
  3. Write the line perpendicular to y = 3x + 2 through (3, 4).
  4. What is perpendicular to y = 2 through (5, 5), and why does the flip rule not apply?
Check your exit ticket
  1. Flip and change the sign: 52. Check: −25 × 52 = −1.
  2. The staircase turns with the line. What pointed sideways (the run) now points up or down, and what pointed up (the rise) now points sideways. And the line leans the other way, so the sign changes.
  3. New m = −13. 4 = −13 × 3 + b, so 4 = −1 + b, b = 5. y = −13x + 5.
  4. x = 5. The slope 0 cannot be flipped; a flat line and a vertical line are perpendicular by sight.
