Practice Problems

Try them, get help one step at a time, then print how it went.

Practice: try it, then get help one step at a time

Classifying from equations and points, then choosing the move. Hint gives a nudge, Show next step shows one worked step at a time, Reveal answer checks, and Hide help / start over clears the card.

Exit ticket

On paper or an index card. Use the math word and the plain-English word.

  1. y = −34x + 2 and y = 43x − 1: same, parallel, perpendicular, or neither? Why?
  2. y = 2x + 3 and 2x − y = −3: how are they related?
  3. Line 1 through (0, 2) and (2, 6); line 2 through (1, 0) and (2, 2). Related how?
  4. Write the line perpendicular to y = 4x through (4, 1), and the line parallel to it through the same point.

  1. Perpendicular: −34 × 43 = −1.
  2. Rewrite: y = 2x + 3. Same m and same b: the same line.
  3. Slopes 2 and 2. Does (1, 0) fit y = 2x + 2? No (it gives 4). Parallel.
  4. Perpendicular: m = −14, 1 = −1 + b, b = 2, y = −14x + 2. Parallel: m = 4, 1 = 16 + b, b = −15, y = 4x − 15.
