Graph a line from its equation: plot b, step by m

You can graph a line straight from its equation, with no table. Three moves:

  1. 1Plot bPut a dot on the y-axis at height b: the point (0, b). This is the starting dot.
  2. 2Step by mRead m as rise over run. From the dot, go up (or down) the rise and right the run, and put the next dot. Do it again for a third dot. For m = 2, that is up 2, right 1. For m = −34, down 3, right 4.
  3. 3Draw the lineThrough the dots, with arrows at both ends: it keeps going.

Try it. For each equation, click the y-intercept first, then step by the slope to place two more dots, check, then press Draw the line.
