Practice: try it, then get help one step at a time
Reading m and b, the careful cases, graphing from the equation, and writing an equation from a simple graph. Hint gives a nudge, Show next step shows one worked step at a time, Reveal answer checks, and Hide help / start over clears the card.

Exit ticket
On paper or an index card. Use the math word and the plain-English word.
- For y = −2x + 5, give m and b and say what each one does.
- Why does the line y = mx + b always cross the y-axis at b?
- Give three dots for graphing y = {frac(1,3)}x + 2.
- A line crosses the y-axis at (0, −1) and goes through (1, 3). Its equation?
Check your exit ticket
- m = −2: down 2 for every 1 right, falling. b = 5: crosses the y-axis at (0, 5), the starting value.
- The y-axis is where x = 0. Put x = 0 in: mx becomes 0, so y = b.
- (0, 2), then up 1 right 3: (3, 3), then (6, 4).
- b = −1, m = 41 = 4, so y = 4x − 1.
