Practice Problems

Try them, get help one step at a time, then print how it went.

Practice: try it, then get help one step at a time

The procedure in words, including flips and the special cases. Hint gives a nudge, Show next step shows one worked step at a time, Reveal answer checks, and Hide help / start over clears the card.

Finished the practice? Print a page that shows each question, what you typed or chose, the correct answer, and how it went. Good for showing a teacher or keeping in a folder.

Exit ticket

On paper or an index card. Use the math word and the plain-English word.

  1. Write the five steps in order.
  2. Graph y < 2x − 3 in words.
  3. Solve −2y > 6x − 4 for y and say what happened to the sign.
  4. Why is y > (a line) shaded above?
Check your exit ticket
  1. Solve for y (flip if you multiply or divide by a negative). Graph the boundary from m and b. Dashed or solid. Shade above for y greater, below for y less. Confirm with a test point.
  2. Boundary y = 2x − 3 (b = −3, m = 2), dashed, shade below. Test (0, 0): 0 < −3 false, so shade away from (0, 0), which is below. Agrees.
  3. Multiply both sides by −12, a negative: y < −3x + 2. The sign flipped.
  4. At any x, a solution has a bigger y than the line's y, and a bigger y is a higher point.
