On paper or an index card. Use the math word and the plain-English word.

  1. Write the equation of the line through (1, 4) and (3, 10).
  2. A table: x = 0, 1, 2 and y = 9, 7, 5. Equation?
  3. Slope 4 through (2, 3). Equation?
  4. Both intercepts of y = −5x + 20, and what the x-intercept means if y is dollars left after x weeks.

  1. m = 62 = 3. 4 = 3 × 1 + b, so b = 1. y = 3x + 1.
  2. m = −2, b = 9: y = −2x + 9.
  3. 3 = 4 × 2 + b, so b = −5. y = 4x − 5.
  4. (0, 20) and (4, 0). At 4 weeks the money is gone.
