From a slice to a count

Finn reads this

Sometimes the graph gives you a slice in degrees and you want the count. Degrees to percent, then percent of the whole group.

Phones sold

Finn reads this

A store sold 2,400 phones. On the circle graph, the slice for one model is 54 degrees. 54 out of 360 is 0.15, which is 15 percent. Then 15 percent of 2,400 is 360. The store sold 360 of that model.

54360 = 0.15 = 15%15% of 2,400 = 2,400 × 0.15 = 360 phones

Where this goes next

Elle reads this

One sentence about Unit 3. A percent decrease is a change that goes down, and so far we have said down with a word. Unit 3 gives that kind of change a sign: a decrease becomes a negative number, and the rules for adding and multiplying with negatives take over from here.
