Build a Circle Graph

Favorite sports

Finn reads this

To build a circle graph from a survey, each count becomes a percent of the total, and each percent becomes degrees. You read and fill in circle graphs here; you do not draw them with a protractor.

Favorite sports

Finn reads this

30 students pick a favorite sport. 12 pick soccer: 12 out of 30 is 40 percent, and 40 percent of 360 is 144 degrees. 9 pick basketball: 30 percent, 108 degrees. 6 pick football: 20 percent, 72 degrees. 3 pick something else: 10 percent, 36 degrees. The percents add to 100 and the degrees add to 360.

FinnPlain English

Count out of the total gives the percent. Percent of 360 gives the degrees.

Type the counts, watch it redraw

Change the counts and the graph redraws, with each slice labeled in percent and degrees. Try making soccer 15 and basketball 6. Then try 10 of each.

Fill in the table
